Important Tips on Staying Healthy During Dry Season!
The heat season is here! It's the period of dry leaves, dusty terrain and hot temperature. This season is usually characterized with dry cough, heat rashes and sore throat among others.
In spite of these, it's also a time to have fun, play games, visit interesting places and have colourful memories. Make the most of this season by first staying healthy.
Here are some tips to help you:
1. Eat Healthy: Eat light but small frequent meals for easy digestion. Run away from hot spicy food and junks. Juicy fruits and veggies are advised this period and ensure you take at least 25g of fiber per day (Weymiller, 2022).
2. Stay Hydrated: Make water your No. 1 drink and take plenty of it. Don't just settle for the standard 8 glasses/day, go a little higher and spicing it up with slices of fresh cucumber, lime, berries or mint leaves, can help you achieve that.
3. Sleep Well: Take short frequent rest during the day, if possible. If not, it's recommended to sleep for 7 - 9 hours daily.
4. Dress To Suit The Weather: Wear bright and light clothing instead of dark thick heavy, clothing which retains heat.
5. Protect Your Eyes: Your eyes are delicate part of your body which needs extra care and attention. During this dusty and sunny period, you might want to protect your eyes from sun UV rays and other sun-related diseases by wearing protective sun glasses especially UV 400 labeled glasses.
6. Exercise: Take your work out sessions seriously especially in the morning before the sun reaches its peak or take short walk breaks during the day. This is good for the heart and keeps you fit.
7. Avoid Too Much Alcohol: Alcohol + Heat = Trouble. Alcohol causes increased urination and heat causes perspiration (sweating). While alcohol can be good for the heart, experts advise it should be taken in moderation especially in dry seasons, for instance, women should take less than 5 drinks/week and men, less than 10 drinks/week.
8. Stay Positive: A positive heart is a magnet for great things. Stay positive no matter what life throws at you. Surround yourself with positive vibes/people and be thankful for the little things you have and have achieved.
Staying healthy is the first step to achieving your personal, career and business goals. While you work hard, have fun and hang out this period, STAY HEALTHY!
