Wines and Spices: Money

Image
Wines and Spices: Money By Comfort Umoren-Olorunnisomo In the previous episodes of wines and spices, we looked at the roles of sex and communication in marriage and how couples can improve on them in their marriages since sex, communication and money have been identified as the three major causes of crises in marriages across the globe. So, in this last episode, we will be focusing on money. Photo credit: Psychologytoday Money! Money!! Money!!! They say it makes the world go round, yet, ‘the love of it’ is said to be the ‘root of all evil.’ Money plays a vital role in oiling the wheels of any union yet if not properly managed could tear the home apart. Finance is one aspect of the family that needs to be carefully managed as lack, mismanagement or emotions attached to it can lead to un/necessary drama and conflict and in some cases, the end of the relationship. This is because money is a limited resources with a spirit when the more/less you have, the more you want, hence, it ...

Wines and Spices II – Communication

Wines and Spices II – Communication By Comfort Umoren-Olorunnisomo Photo Credit: Psychalive In our previous article, we talked about sex as one of the three major causes of crises in marriage where the other two are communication and money. In this article, we will be discussing causes of communication break-down and possible ways to ensure effective communication within the context of marriage (effective). You cannot not communicate! Communication may not be the solution to all problems but it can sure serve as a tool to identify and solve problems. Research has shown that most couples who are happily married communicate (verbally and non-verbally) more often and freely than couples who do not. With the advent of technology, more and more couples are drifting apart as each is glued to his/her phone. An article published on first things first’s site (2017) states that an average couple spends 20 minutes a week talking with each other. This means that we update ourselves with h...

Wines and Spices: Recreating and Refreshing Your Marital Bliss (episode II)

Wines and Spices: Recreating and Refreshing Your Marital Bliss (episode II) By Comfort Umoren-Olorunnisomo Photo credit: Vincarta Continuing from the last episode on sex which focused on women, this episode covers what men can do to zing up their sex life in marriage. Call them alpha male or beta male, these folks are saddled with the big responsibility of making sure everyone in the family is well provided for but it doesn’t just end there and this is where most men get it wrong. The sexual satisfaction of the wife is also a duty most men either shy away from or are ignorant of as most of them tend to see sex as a one way route where only the man deserves to be satisfied and once this is achieved, the woman is expected or assumed to be satisfied too. This has resulted in crises, infidelity or a boring and inactive sexual experience among couples. The African culture excuses a man’s infidelity against his wife and this has made most men not to put in any extra effort in ...

Wines and Spices: Recreating and Refreshing Your Marital Bliss

Wines and Spices: Recreating and Refreshing Your Marital Bliss By Comfort Umoren-Olorunnisomo Most people believe a perfect home only exist in movies and novels. Some say ‘oh, you can’t have it all’ or ‘there is no marriage without its problem(s).’ With the increasing rate of divorce and odd stories about marriage, one would want to agree with this school of thought. Marriage is the coming together of two ADULTS who are emotionally, physically and psychologically mature to start a home and journey TOGETHER through life’s rough road. The beginning is usually filled with butterflies in the stomach, heart pounding and breath-taking moments filled with flowers, wines, romance and love among others. What happens when the butterflies all die a little too soon? What can be done when there is no love fuel to keep the heart racing, when those breath-taking moments are remembered with a loud sad yawn? It takes two understanding hearts, commitment and sacrifices to make a marriage work yet ...

Suwe : Play, Learn and Stay Healthy!

Image
Ever missed the good 'old school' fun days as a kid? Those days of innocence, devil-may-care and blithe disregard for any of life's worries. Growing up in the ghetto had its advantages, one of which was being dogged but the most interesting thing I missed about my growing up were the exciting games we played.  These games include 'Suwe', 'Ten-ten' and 'touch-and-do' among others.  Research has shown that outdoor games enhances children's learning abilities and skills while exploring nature.  They also get to breathe fresh air and get to learn things they may never be taught in the four walls of the classroom. Today, I'll focus on 'Suwe' otherwise known as Hopscotch and its many benefits.                                       Photo credit: daily gossip 'Suwe' is a game where players ranging from 2-10 take turns singly or in pairs to hop on series of square...
